Kennesaw State head coach Tripp MacKay recorded his 100th career win in a 1-0 triumph over Troy on Sunday.
As the Owls’ leader celebrates the milestone victory, here are Five Fast Facts about his career.
1. He is in his fifth year leading the Owls.
MacKay spent eleven years as an assistant coach in the Big 12 and some time in the professional softball realm before taking the position at Kennesaw State. He has led the Owls since the 2019 season.
2. He is the second coach in Kennesaw program history to reach the 100-win mark.
Following in the footsteps of longtime Owls leader and former natonal champion coach Scott Whitlock, MacKay is just the second coach to reach the 100-win milestone with the Owls.
3. He has coached in four Women’s College World Series’.
During his tenure as an assistant coach at Oklahoma, MacKay was part of the staff that led the Sooners to four straight WCWS appearances and the 2013 National Championship.
4. He presided over KSU’s first-ever Division 1 postseason win.
In 2021, Kennesaw State earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament and beat Auburn 1-0 in the Tallahassee Regional. It was the first-ever NCAA tournament win at the D1 level for the Owls.
5. He played professional baseball.
After playing college baseball for Florida and Oklahoma State, MacKay was drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1996. He played professionally, in the minor and independent leagues, until 2000.
