UAB Names Ashley Prange Assistant Coach

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB head coach A.J. Daugherty has named former Alabama standout Ashley Prange as his new assistant coach for the start of the 2024 season.

Prange was a two-time First Team All-SEC selection for the Crimson Tide in her only two seasons in Tuscaloosa (2022-23) after spending the first three years of her career at Ohio State.

The third baseman led Alabama to a Women’s College World Series berth in 2023 and was the team leader in batting average (.320), home runs (16), runs (46) and walks (38), while ranking second in hits (58) and RBI (46).

“We couldn’t be more excited to add Ashley to our staff,” Daugherty said. “Ashley has excelled at every level. She is a highly-decorated high school player, a stand-out collegiate player, and a current professional player. She brings a fresh perspective to our program and an infectious love of the game that I believe our team will reflect.”

Following her time in Tuscaloosa, Prange spent her first season playing professionally for the Florida Vibe in the summer of 2023 and will resume pro ball next summer.

A native of New Palestine, Ind., Prange was the 2018 Indiana Gatorade Softball Player of the Year and started 103 games at Ohio State from 2019-21. She was a member of the 2019 Big Ten All-Freshman Team and earned Academic All-Big Ten in 2020.

In her first season with Alabama (2022), she led the Tide in home runs (8), runs (40) and walks (30), while ranking second in batting average (.340) and hits (49) and third in RBI (27).

“I am so excited to be back in Alabama and to have the opportunity to pour into this program and these girls,” Prange said. “This staff makes UAB feel like home and I can’t wait for what’s in store for UAB softball this spring.”

Prange joins Daugherty’s staff which consists of associate head coach Sallie Beth Burch and assistant coach/pitching coach Mollie Hanson who each are in their second season.

The Blazers open the 2024 campaign on Feb. 10 at Mississippi State.
