Sunday’s surprising move of Texas Tech firing head coach Sami Ward was not the first coaching move of the year, but it was definitely the biggest thus-far and marked the first Power Five opening of this cycle. The Red Raiders still have the Big 12 tournament ahead in their season, though their regular season ended last weekend.
Last time around, even while making a hire in the early fall and late in the calendar year, Texas Tech had a quality pool of candidates. Having spoken to several of those very same candidates, expect a very different pool this time around – the issues surrounding the program and the circumstances under which each of the last two coaches were dismissed is paramount in some would-be candidates’ minds.
Earlier this week, we profiled the Red Raiders’ head coaching position and what the program offers a new coach; now we turn our attention to who that new coach might be. Could one of these candidates be the next head coach in Lubbock?
