Wichita State slugger Addison Barnard has been named the Extra Inning Softball Player of the Week for her efforts during Week 8 of the college softball season.
In a three-game series against Tulsa, Barnard batted .667 with five home runs and fourteen RBIs to her credit.
In the series opener, Barnard was 1-2 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs to her credit. A third-inning home run gave the Shockers their first lead of the game, while her 4th-inning sacrifice fly helped start a comeback that ultimately gave her team a lead they would not relinquish.
The sophomore had a banner day in game two, leading off the scoring with a first-inning RBI double and ending the day 3-4 at the plate with six RBIs to her credit. Barnard hit a 3-run home run in the third inning and added a two-run shot in the fifth to break open the game and boost the Shockers near run-rule territory.
To close the weekend, Barnard was 2-3 in her team’s offensive onslaught in the series finale, collecting five RBIs on the back of two home runs and an RBI bases-loaded walk. After a solo shot in the first inning, Barnard hit her fifth and final home run of the weekend in the fifth inning, a 3-run shot that vaulted the Shockers into double-digits in scoring.
