Winthrop head coach Windy Thees earned her 500th career win on Sunday in a 3-2 triumph over Fordham.

As the Eagles’ leader celebrates the milestone victory, here are Five Fast Facts about her career.

1. She is in her fifth year leading the Winthrop program.

Hired in the summer of 2018, the 2023 season marks Thees’ fifth as the Eagles’ leader. She led the program to the Big South title game in her first season at the helm.

2. She has nearly two decades of head coaching experience.

Prior to Winthrop, Thees’ resume included three seasons as head coach at Ole Miss, as well as tenures leading the programs at Memphis and Georgia College & State University.

3. She started the Memphis softball program.

In 2005, Thees was selected to start the Memphis Tigers’ program from scratch and build it up, something she officially accomplished in 2011 when the Tigers won 36 games and reached the NCAA tournament.

4. She has coached internationally.

Since 2019, Thees has served as an assistant coach on the Under-22 Great Britain National team staff, helping guide the up-and-comers in British softball as the nation has built themselves into an international contender.

5. She played college softball at Florida State.

Thees caught and played infield for Joanne Graf’s Seminoles from 1993-97 and was part of three ACC championship-winning squads during her playing career.
