How to Thrive, Not Just Survive
15 Proven Tips for Single Parents
At Extra Inning Softball, we know the grind behind the glory. I’m Bonnie Holland, CEO of Extra Inning Softball—but before any title, I’m a mom. In 2007, I became a single parent of four children, the youngest just four months old. We faced financial hardship, emotional upheaval, and nonstop schedules. But I made a decision early on: my children wouldn’t miss out on sports because of our circumstances.
The cost of keeping kids on the field continues to climb. A 2024 Wealth Watch survey by New York Life found that parents now spend an average of $3,000 per year on their children’s sports, with 64% reporting increased expenses in recent years (Business Wire, April 22, 2024). Many families are making financial sacrifices to keep athletic dreams alive—especially single parents.
I’m sharing 15 proven tips for sports-driven single parents—practical, tested strategies that helped me keep my kids active, supported, and thriving in youth sports. With the right systems in place, it’s possible to manage the chaos, reduce stress, and protect the joy of the game for your family.
