2022 Extra Elite 100 Candidate Aubrey Evans: After a Career in Baseball, Already an All-State Softball Player in Only One Year!

Aubrey Evans is a fast-rising 2022 grad who made 1st Team All-State in just her first year playing softball.

As Extra Inning Softball gets ready to launch the updated 2022 Extra Elite 100 later this month, one name that is on the radar as a fast-rising prospect is Florida middle infielder Aubrey Evans.

She just started playing softball about a year ago after playing baseball for years and, amazingly, she ended up being a 1st Team Florida 9A All-State selection after transitioning to softball as a high school freshman.

One of her biggest fans is her club coach, who feels Aubrey has the potential to be one of the Top 10 players in her class by the time she graduates.

“It doesn’t take long to figure out why most schools are all in on Aubrey as she has the ‘it’ factor,” says her coach, Jason Gusaeff of the Georgia Impact.

“You can tell right away that she has played baseball for years by the way she handles herself on the field. Aubrey is so smooth with her range and arm strength that you take for granted the plays that she makes looks easy. At the plate she hits for power and a high average and is only getting better as she has only played softball for less than two years. We are excited to watch her this summer and make an impact for our team as we make a run at PGF Nationals.”

Aubrey Evans has fun in the dugout for her Apopka (Florida) High team.

You come from a family of athletes, you dad having played football at Mississippi State, your mom playing college Volleyball and your brother is a college baseball player at Florida Atlantic University (D1). So where do you fit in, safe to say you’re the best athlete in the family?
I wouldn’t say that I am the best athlete but I can definitely say I am very blessed to come from a very athletic family.

Your transition to softball from baseball is amazing, it’s been just a year and you were 1st Team All-State (9A)… tell us what it was like moving from one sport to another—what were the challenges and what came easily to you?
Moving from baseball to softball wasn’t much different because it’s very similar but playing baseball my whole life, I felt really help me be the softball player I am today. The challenges were seeing the pitch come from a different angle and the distance from the mound to home plate is way closer so making the adjustment with my reaction time took a little bit. What came easy was the shorter distance around the bases and throwing distance across the infield.
