For Ali Perkins, competing has never been about focusing on limitations. It has been about discovering just how far determination, preparation and confidence can take her.
The Class of 2027 right-handed pitcher and infielder from Las Vegas competes for Lil Rebels Julia and Desert Oasis High School while playing with a prosthetic leg. Yet Perkins has built an athletic résumé that speaks far louder than any obstacle she has encountered. At Extra Inning Softball, we believe stories of perseverance deserve to be seen and heard.

An uncommitted 2027 prospect, Perkins has earned postseason recognition, helped Desert Oasis make deep state tournament runs and delivered in some of her team’s biggest moments.
Her motivation is simple.
“I always want to prove others wrong,” Perkins said. “I want to show that I am capable of doing anything.”

Performance Under Pressure
Perkins’ high school career has already included several notable accomplishments.
She earned First Team All-Conference recognition as a freshman and received the Las Vegas Sun Standout Award that same year. Academically, she has been named to the All-State Academic Team every year of high school.
Team success has followed as well. Desert Oasis finished third in the state during Perkins’ freshman season and later reached the state championship game.
One performance in particular captures the type of competitor Perkins has become.
With Desert Oasis playing SECTA for an opportunity to advance to the state tournament, Perkins was in the circle in the bottom of the seventh inning. There were two outs and runners in scoring position.
One swing could have changed everything.
Instead, Perkins struck out the final batter.
“Everyone threw their gloves and we all celebrated,” Perkins said. “It was just such a happy, memorable, euphoric moment.”
Athlete Identity: More Than One Position
Perkins brings versatility to the field as a right-handed pitcher, second baseman and infielder. At the club level, she represents Lil Rebels Julia under head coach Julia Meyn, while also competing for Desert Oasis in Las Vegas. Her athletic identity, however, extends beyond softball.
Perkins is also a varsity volleyball player. Away from athletics, music is another major part of her life. She participates in three choirs, serves as a section leader in her chamber women’s choir and is vice president of choir.
Balancing those responsibilities while competing at a high level demonstrates another important part of Perkins’ makeup: she refuses to place artificial limits on what she can pursue.
Key Strength: Competitive Drive
Perkins’ prosthetic leg is part of her story, but it does not define her softball career.
Her response to adversity does.
She describes herself as someone willing to work harder, give maximum effort and continue pushing when circumstances become difficult.
“I never give up, and always put 100% effort when I am on the field,” Perkins said. “Even off the field, I don’t let adversity stop me. I don’t give excuses, and I always put my best foot forward no matter what.”
That mentality has helped Perkins develop into an athlete who wants the opportunity to compete when pressure is highest.
Leadership Through Energy
Another strength Perkins brings to a roster is her presence around teammates.
She believes leadership can be demonstrated through communication, encouragement and consistent energy—not simply statistics.
“I am always lifting my teammates up,” Perkins said. “I am always bringing the energy to the field for myself and my team.”
For Perkins, that means talking on the field, communicating, cheering and maintaining a positive attitude regardless of the situation.
She also credits former club coach Coach Ray with playing an important role in her development. Perkins said he was one of the first coaches to truly invest in her and give her the confidence to believe in herself as a player.
Turning Adversity Into an Example
As Perkins continues her recruiting journey as an uncommitted Class of 2027 athlete, her story offers college coaches more than positional versatility.
It shows resilience.
It shows competitiveness.
And it shows an athlete who has learned to respond to adversity by working rather than making excuses.
Perkins hopes that example can reach younger softball players who may be facing challenges of their own.
“I hope that I can be an example that anything is possible,” Perkins said. “You can always push through adversity and prove people wrong.”
What’s Next for Perkins
Perkins remains uncommitted as she continues pursuing opportunities beyond high school.
Her performances in the circle, ability to play multiple positions, academic accomplishments and leadership already provide plenty for coaches to evaluate.
But perhaps the strongest part of her profile is the mentality behind all of it.
Perkins has spent her athletic career demonstrating that circumstances do not have to establish expectations.
She would rather establish her own.
And as her Class of 2027 recruiting journey continues, Perkins has another opportunity to do exactly what has motivated her throughout her career: Prove what she is capable of.
