As part of our in-depth preseason college softball coverage, today we dive into the Big East Conference and forecast what could be in store for the league during the 2023 season.
1. Conference Breakdown
UConn won the Big East’s regular-season crown a season ago and were the top seed in the conference tournament. It was old stalwart and regular-season 3rd-place finisher Villanova, though, who came through in the tournament and won the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA postseason.
Big East membership remained intact, unchanged by this summer’s conference realignment shifting. Nine softball programs call the Big East home; those program include Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, UConn, and Villanova.
