As part of our in-depth preseason college softball coverage, today we dive into the Ohio Valley Conference – the OVC – and forecast what could be in store for the league during the 2023 season.
1. Conference Breakdown
Murray State won the OVC’s regular-season and tournament titles last season, finishing ahead of Belmont in both races. The Racers represented the league in the NCAA tournament, earning a regional 3-seed in Tuscaloosa.
Following the season, Murray State and Belmont each departed the league, both going to join the Missouri Valley. Austin Peay also departed within conference realignment, joining the ASun Conference. The OVC added two teams, Lindenwood and Southern Indiana, both of them moving up from the Division II ranks.
There are currently nine softball programs that compete in the OVC. Those programs include Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, Morehead State, Southeast Missouri, SIU Edwardsville, Southern Indiana, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, and UT-Martin.
