We always love hearing from players we’ve covered previously and one of those is Makena Strong, a standout 2022 middle infielder we features in a March 2020 article titled Las Vegas Infielder Makena Strong… “Living in the Cage, in the Weight Room & on the Dirt!”
Makena wrote to tell us she had committed recently, stating: “I wanted to send you a quick note to let you know I have verbally committed to the University of Montana. I am beyond blessed and excited to join their program. I was fortunate to have several offers and with the Dead Period extended and COVID travel restrictions it was challenging to determine the best fit for me.”
“With recruiting being so different I was blessed to have my coaches and parents very involved in the process,” Makena continued. “I worked hard at being recruited from just before I turned 13. It takes a village and from videos to letters to camps and finally conversations and zoom calls, its all crazy but worth it.
“Coach Mel (Melanie Meuchel) and Coach Obie (Sarah O’Brien) and their entire staff at Montana took the time to get to know me and my family and share everything about the state of Montana, city of Missoula and the entire campus and facilities at UM. Meeting with an academic advisor for my major was so reassuring. I am excited to be a Grizzand continue to work on my skills in prep to join them in fall 2022!”
