Few names in the sport of softball carry the legacy, experience, and heart that Carie Dever-Boaz brings to the field. Today, Extra Inning Softball is proud to officially announce Dever Boaz as our new Director of Operations, a role that unites her deep-rooted love for the game with our mission to educate, inspire, and serve the entire softball community.
From college to coaching, to championship dugouts and international clinics, Dever Boaz’s life has been shaped by softball—and now, she’s ready to shape the future of the sport in an even bigger way.
Dever Boaz, has a BS in Health Science from Fresno State, a Clear Teaching Credential from National University-Fresno and a Masters in Sports Administration from University of West Alabama.

A Hall of Fame Playing Career: Built from Grit and Greatness
Dever Boaz’s journey began in Woodlake, California, where her love for the game first took root. She went on to make history as Margie Wright’s very first recruit at Fresno State, becoming a foundational part of what would grow into one of the most storied programs in NCAA softball.
As a Bulldog, she helped lead her team to four Women’s College World Series appearances—including the first-ever WCWS held in Oklahoma City. She finished her collegiate career with an 84-12 pitching record, tallying 58 shutouts and six no-hitters along the way. Her list of honors includes:
- Three-time Second-Team All-American
- Two-time Academic All-American
- 1990 Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Her impact on the game as a player earned her induction into two Halls of Fame: the Fresno State Athletics Hall of Fame and the Woodlake High School Hall of Fame—a testament to both her performance and character.

A Coaching Resume That Spans Every Level of the Game
After her playing days, Dever Boaz took her passion to the next generation—coaching across every level of the sport, from youth to college to the professional stage.
Her collegiate coaching career began at South Carolina, where she served as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator, before taking the reins as head coach at the University of Arkansas. During her time with the Razorbacks, she led the program to two NCAA Tournament appearances and six SEC Tournament appearances, earning SEC Coach of the Year honors in 1999.

She later brought her leadership and knowledge to coaching roles at the University of Virginia, the University of Florida, Northwest Mississippi Community College and most recently at the University of West Alabama, where she helped grow the program over five seasons before retiring in 2022.

In the professional realm, she managed the Washington Glory in the National Pro Fastpitch league, leading the team to a championship title in 2007, where she coached legends like Monica Abbott, Kelly Kretschman, Amber Jackson, and Tarynn Mowatt . The NPF also named Dever Boaz the manager of the year in 2007. Dever Boaz has also coached at the high school and elite travel ball levels, proving her ability to connect with and elevate players from all backgrounds and stages of development.

Teacher, Author, Speaker, Leader
Beyond the dugout, Dever Boaz is a lifelong educator. She holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education, and has always viewed softball as a vehicle for teaching life lessons, discipline, and self-belief.

She is the author of the instructional book “The Art of Pitching”, and has produced several softball training videos that have helped thousands of pitchers, coaches, and teams across the globe. Her love of teaching has taken her to international clinics in Australia, Holland, Italy, and Canada, and she’s been a featured speaker at national softball conventions, high-level coaching symposiums, and sports education events worldwide.

Faith, Family, and the Future of the Game
For Dever Boaz, softball is deeply personal. Her faith has been a guiding light through every chapter, and she sees her new role at Extra Inning Softball as a calling.
“I believe God led me to Extra Inning Softball,” she says. “This is where I can make the biggest impact—bringing all parts of the softball world together to grow the game through education, support, and connection.”
Dever Boaz and her husband Bruce live in Hernando, Mississippi, where she also gives private lessons at Elevate. Together, they’ve raised two incredible children. Their daughter Macie, a standout in her own right, has followed in her mom’s cleats—carving out her own legacy in the sport and emerging as one of the top athletes in the 2026 class. Their son Max who was a Rodeo college athlete and now owns his own car business. Macie and Max bring energy and joy every day, reminding Dever Boaz of life’s bigger purpose-Family First.

As Director of Operations, Dever Boaz will oversee strategic growth, content development, educational resources, and partnerships—ensuring Extra Inning remains the go-to platform for players, coaches, parents, umpires, facilities, event organizers, and fans.
With her heart for athletes and unmatched resume in the sport, she brings a unique blend of leadership, vision, and humility to this new role.
