Business News: Florida Softball Announces Implementation of Blast Motion Technologies

Florida Softball has announced it will utilize Blast Motion technology and data to improve hitters and impact players.

On Thursday (Dec. 1, 2022), Blast Motion—a San Marcos, Calif.-based company that provides motion analysis and performance insights through its technology and services—announced that Tim Walton and his two-time Women’s College World Series champion Florida Gators teams have selected Blast as its Swing Analyzer (sensor) to provide player development, hitting, and recruiting insights for its softball program.

“We are ecstatic about the opportunity to work with Blast Motion,” Coach Walton said. “The data that we will be able to capture and analyze using their products will give our analytics staff and our coaches valuable information that we can utilize to make an impact with our players.”

“Blast’s sensor technology will allow us to communicate more effectively through the use of the data that is collected and visibly displayed to our hitters,” the coach added.

This isn’t the only tie-in to the Gator program, however.

Amanda Lorenz, the former All-American at UF, also works with Blast.

Earlier this year, Blast also signed former three-time 1st Team All-American and Florida great Amanda Lorenz to its team of Blast influencers.

So how did the SEC power first become familiar with the competitive advantages in player improvement that Blast could provide?

Matt Tanner, the Blast Motion Sr. Sales Channel Manager for Baseball and Softball, explains that UF has long vetted what the California-based company provides and has seen its success first-hand.

“As a leader in the sport, University of Florida Softball is always looking to maximize player development,” Turner begins. “Coach Walton and his staff understand the value that technology can provide, so when we first began working together it seemed like a perfect fit.”

“After several years of rigorous testing, proving the impact first-hand with their players and coaches in any training environment or dynamic, Florida decided to implement our technology with its players as well as in its camp programming.”

And what will Blast provide for the Gators’ player and coaches?

“As part of our relationship, moving forward the Gators will not only leverage our sensors and apps but also our premium services as well as ongoing 1:1 support with our experts.”

The Blast sensor, mobile app, and team solution combines swing data which is automatically synced with auto-clipped video to simplify and enhance swing analysis, allowing coaches to replay and review a player’s swing mechanics. Blast’s technology also allows coaches the ability to evaluate and improve player hitting through real-time swing analytics, side-by-side swing comparisons, 3D Swing Tracer visualizations, team reports, and more.

“We’re excited to collaborate with one of the top softball programs in the country and Coach Walton to help Florida Softball further enhance its player development program,” Tanner adds. “Florida Softball has a long history of producing some of the best softball players in the country, and we look forward to helping the Gators continue that winning streak.”
