Bryan Lacina, who helped Iowa Premier National-Lacina to a runner-up finish at the 16U Alliance Nationals this past summer, left the organization this week to join Scotty Smith’s Oklahoma-based Epic Fastpitch.
“The team enjoyed a lot of success on the field and won several major events like Scenic City Top 25 and finishing as runner-up in the 16U Alliance Nationals last year,” Lacina said. “This fall, we rebuilt the team, which is predominantly 2024s for the upcoming year. It’s loaded with talented athletes, and they have been competing well and winning at high-level events like the Top Club Fall Invite and HFL Fall Championships.”
Lacina’s team, which is based in Arkansas and has a number of players from Oklahoma, has qualified for this summer’s Alliance Nationals in Southern California.
“Scotty’s 18U National team is a powerhouse team that plays with a lot of energy and passion,” Lacina said. “I love that type of energy and team culture. It is something I’ve always emphasized to our players. In recent conversations with Scotty, the idea of our team joining his organization, Epic Fastpitch, came up. There are a lot of synergies and many of our players are from Oklahoma. I can see nothing but upside and opportunities.”
Epic Fastpitch is in its third year as an organization and already has made a name for itself on the national stage.
“Coach Lacina has done an amazing job with his team and program,” Smith said. “And being from our region and lots of Oklahoma kids on his roster the fit just seemed to work. Coach Lacina and I have a lot of like-minded thoughts for development or our players.”
Lacina’s team will be known as Epic National 18U-Lacina.
“It’s going to be awesome being part of an organization that competes at the highest level and invests in its player’s development and growth so they can be their best as an athlete and person,” Lacina said. “2023 is going to be epic and I can’t wait to take the field and compete as Epic Fastpitch.”
