The ScrapYard International 16U team made national headlines when (and how) it was awarded the co-championship at the TC/USA Nationals on July 13 in Atlanta, but that wasn’t just a one-time fluke.
The Internationals team coached by Tommy Colonnetta has had other Top 10 finishes this year and last and in less than a week–from this Saturday, July 28 through Tuesday, August 7–the team will join others from the ScrapYard program that will travel to Japan to play and train.
Here’s a closer look at this fast-rising program and team with comments from Coach Colonneta…

Talk about the ScrapYard Internationals team and how it came to be…
The original ScrapYard Dawgs organization started in 2015, however the Scrap Yard Sports Complex opened in 2013. In the fall of 2017 the ScrapYard Dawg and Sudden Impact organizations merged only at the 18U level (the Greater Houston area, along with the surroundings areas, are highly rich in softball talent).
The organization would change its name to be ScrapYard Internationals at the 16U and 18U levels, however still having SY Dawg teams at the 10U, 12U and 14U levels. The two organizations (ScrapYard & Sudden Impact) sit about five miles away from each other and it just made sense to merge versus battle each other for the top players in the city.
You’re based in the Houston area and have one of the nicest facilities in the nation in the Scrap Yard Sports Complex… what’s that like to have as your “home turf?”
The ScrapYard organization is in Conroe, Texas, in The Woodlands area, and we are so fortunate to be able to call this our home as we have two indoor hitting facilities and with all turf fields. Never a rainy day for us!
