The Birmingham Thunderbolts 18U Premier team is honoring former Bolt standout Alex Wilcox, who died at age 18 in June from Ovarian cancer. Alex wore #8 when she played for the club team and teal is the color representing the cancer which took the life of the Mississippi State player.

The 2018 PGF Nationals kicked off yesterday with the Coaches Draw breakfast in Anaheim, California and then the beginning of check-in and bat testing for the 18U, 12U and 10U teams who will compete for the championship to be held this Thursday and Friday.

The team registration and bat compliance checks began at 12:30 pm on Saturday at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex and the first 18U Premier pool games began at 2 pm on the eight fields at the location which is part of Huntington Beach Central Park.

Extra Inning Softball was there to soak up the sights and sounds of the first day of what will be two straight weekends of top club softball as 500-plus teams will compete from the ages of 10U to 18U when the last out is recorded.

Here’s a photo gallery of some of the images we saw Saturday afternoon and evening at the Complex:
