Duke’s Kristina Foreman records multi-hit performances to earn USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week

Currently riding a career-high six-game hitting streak, Duke freshman infielder Kristina Foreman (Tampa, Fla.) has been named the Week 8 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week. Helping the Duke Blue Devils to their first ACC road series sweep in program history, Foreman hit .600 (9-for-15) with seven runs scored, two home runs, three RBI with a 1.000 slugging percentage.

Currently riding a career-high six-game hitting streak, Duke freshman infielder Kristina Foreman (Tampa, Fla.) has been named the Week 8 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week. Announced today by USA Softball, Foreman led the Blue Devils at the plate as the team recorded their first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) road series sweep in program history.

Kristina Foreman is the first Duke player ever to receive the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week honor.

“As a whole, it has been amazing what this team has been able to accomplish,” said Foreman. “We have finally started to hit our stride this season, and last weekend was just the beginning. From the first pitch, we came out with the intention of winning and dominating, and that’s what we did. Stepping into the box this weekend, I felt super comfortable and relaxed. I knew anything the pitcher threw in the zone I was going to hit it. Looking forward, I hope my team and myself continue to stay locked in and keep the ‘refuse to lose’ mentality.”

Starting the week with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with one run scored in a 6-10 loss to Liberty, Foreman and her Duke teammates traveled to Georgia Tech for a three-game ACC series.

In the first match-up, Foreman produced another 2-for-4 stat at the plate with an RBI and one run scored in a 9-5 win. Scoring two runs and driving in a run, Foreman sent out her first home run of the weekend in Duke’s 11-2 win to lock-in the series win. Foreman closed out the weekend with a perfect 3-for-3, three-run, one RBI and one home run performance in the series finale as the Blue Devils swept Georgia Tech with an 8-6 win.

“Kristina has been on fire the last 10 games and really took it to another level this weekend putting a charge into our offense against Georgia Tech,” said Duke Head Coach, Marissa Young. “I am most impressed with the poise she continues to show in clutch situations. It is really something special to see in a freshman.”

For the week, Foreman hit .600 (9-for-15) with seven runs scored, two home runs, three RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage. In addition to her six-game hitting streak, Foreman also has turned in a multi-hit performance in five-consecutive games.

This is the first USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week for Foreman and first for an athlete from Duke in program history.

Amanda Sanchez, Taylor McQuillin earn 2019 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I weekly honors

LSU’s Amanda Sanchez and Arizona’ Taylor McQuillin were named Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division I National Player and Pitcher of the Week of the Week, respectively, for games played March 25-31.

Sanchez

Sanchez keyed the seventh-ranked Tigers to a 3-1 week, which included a pair of SEC wins over then-No. 16 South Carolina. Over four games, she hit .700 (7-for-10) with a double, three home runs, 10 RBI and a 1.700 slugging percentage. The West Covina, Calif. native clubbed two of those round trippers, including a grand slam, and drove in five runs in the series-clinching win over the Gamecocks. In game one, Sanchez was 2-for-3 and broke a 4-4 deadlock with a RBI single in the fifth inning. She also homered and recorded two RBI in game two.

McQuillin

McQuillin shut down the nation’s top scoring offense, tossing a pair of two-hit shutouts against then-No. 17 Arizona State. Over 12 innings of work, she struck out 15, walked three and held Sun Devil batters to a .100 batting average. McQuillin’s masterful performance came against an ASU offense that led NCAA Division I in runs per game (9.12), home runs (64) and slugging percentage (.696). Combined with another two-hit shutout by her teammate, the Wildcats posted their first shutout sweep of the Sun Devils in program history.
