AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head coach Jamie Pinkerton has named Lindsey Ubrun, who has served as the head coach of Wagner College for the past six seasons, as assistant coach for the Cyclones.

Ubrun returns to Ames after spending three seasons as an assistant coach in the Iowa State dugout (2014-16) under the direction of Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler. Also on that staff was current associate head coach Kate Sinnott who at the time was the director of operations.

Ubrun was initially hired at Iowa State to replace Coach Pinkerton, who had just left to start up the Montana softball program. She has over a decade of coaching experience to her name on top of being a former All-American at the University of Missouri.

“I am so excited to be back in Ames with the best athletic department, student-athletes and supporters anywhere in the country,” said Ubrun. “I can’t wait to get started and help build on what Coach Pinkerton, his staff and student-athletes have developed.”

For the last six years, Ubrun has been in charge of the Wagner softball program. Ubrun led the Seahawks to their most conference wins since 2007 in 2022, posting 12 victories over NEC opponents. Across her six years on Staten Island, Ubrun saw her team record multiple top 10 program hitting records.

With the Cyclones, Ubrun oversaw both hitting and infield instruction, as well as recruiting nationwide. In her first year in Ames, Ubrun’s instruction at the plate led ISU to its best statistical hitting season in school history. In 2014, Iowa State collectively hit .325 with 476 hits, both of which are still single-season records. It’s the only year in program history ISU has hit over .300. ISU has eight 400+ hit seasons and three of them came with Ubrun in the dugout.

“I’m excited to welcome back Lindsey and for our student-athletes to have an opportunity to interact with her, learn and be coached by her,” said coach Jamie Pinkerton. “She knows what it takes to be a successful student-athlete, to play at a high level and reach our sport’s pinnacle. Her experience coaching at Chattanooga, Florida Gulf Coast and Wagner will be invaluable to our staff and myself. Lindsey has helped each program grow in her time at those respective stops. We are looking forward to getting started soon!”

Lindsey Ubrun was an assistant coach for Florida Gulf Coast for two seasons (2017-18) where she led the Eagles both on the infield and at the plate. Both her 2017 and 2018 are littered through the record books as FGCU set multiple top 10 program hitting records during her time in Fort Myers.

Throughout her three seasons in Chattanooga, where she worked with outfielders and hitters, the Mocs were one of the top hitting teams in the country. In her first two seasons with Chattanooga, the Mocs hit over .340 in both seasons. In 2011, Chattanooga set school records in six offensive categories, including runs scored and total bases.

The Riverside, California, native began her coaching career at Chattanooga where she spent two years as a volunteer assistant coach before becoming a full-time assistant after the 2012 season.

Ubrun began her collegiate career at Maryland before finishing her final two seasons in Columbia. She compiled a .313 average across her four years between the two schools, belting 48 homers and tallying 164 RBI. In her senior season with the Tigers, Ubrun helped to lead the Tigers to the 2009 Women’s College World Series. She graduated from Mizzou in 2010 with an education degree.
