Northwestern softball ruled the day at Wrigley Field on Sunday, with head coach Kate Drohan tasked with throwing out the ceremonial first pitch and a group of ‘Cats singing the famous 7th Inning Stretch.
Sunday was not the first time that Drohan has thrown out the first pitch from the Friendly Confines. This time, on the hill and throwing to Jordyn Rudd – the only college softball catcher to win a Gold Glove award – behind the plate, Drohan’s pitch was a bit low and out, though Rudd added a frame job on the receiving end.

When the 7th inning rolled around and the time came for the famous Wrigley Field celebrity-led, audience-participation rendition of Take Me Out to the Ballgame, Rudd and some of her Wildcat teammates were in the booth to lead the crowd.
In addition to Rudd, other members of the Northwestern senior class who took part included Skyler Shellmyer, Maeve Nelson, and Nikki Cuchran. All four announced in June that they are returning to Evanston for their “super senior” seasons and one last year of college softball in 2023.
