The big club tournament this weekend is in Kansas City as the Top Gun Invitational is hosting 210 teams from 18U down to 12U at multiple parks.
Extra Inning Softball is here (this is Brentt writing!) for the weekend and I’m excited to see teams from more than 20 states battling it out.
You have the locals, of course, such as Top Gun and KC Peppers while the East Coast is represented with PA Strikers and the Lady Dukes, for example, (we’ll get to James Lamar’s team in a second) while Texas has teams like the impressive Hotshots and the Midwest is strong thanks to the Beverly Bandits, among many, many others.
Here are some news items and highlights from Thursday, Day 1 (June 17, 2021) at Top Gun Invitational…

The Game of the Day had to be the late one (8 pm) at the Mid-America Sports Complete as the Lady Dukes – Lamar team topped the Nebraska Gold 2-1.
Why?
Because it featured two of the best pitchers in the country and, don’t know if this has ever happened before, two #1 pitchers in the Extra Elite 100 in their respective classes going head-to-head.
The Dukes feature the top pitcher in the 2023 class in Keagan Rothrock, who is committed to Florida, while the Nebraska Gold is led by the #1 overall player and pitchers in the 2021 class, in Oklahoma signee Jordyn Bahl.
The younger pitcher won tonight’s game courtesy of a two-run home run by another Florida-bound standout, 2024 infielder Layla Lamar, daughter of Coach James and a Top 5 player in the 2024 Extra Elite 100.
It was a great game by Keagan, who one scout said “must have been throwing upwards of 68 mph.”
It was also a great WEEK for the outstanding player because she led her Boncalli (Indiana) High team to a state championships within the last week too.

As great of an event as Top Gun Invitational is, maybe Top Gun Events is in the wrong business… like, maybe they should go into social media full time based on a TikTok video the company posted yesterday.
In the first EVER clip posted on TikTok, a video showing Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns commit Chloe Riassetto pitching in slow motion has gathered over 1.7 MILLION views in less than 24 hours with nearly 1,700 comments!
