UPDATED Event News: PGF Bownet Bash Featuring Top Teams Set for This Weekend (June 5-7) in Newberry, Florida

With club softball getting back into swing, it’s good to see top events coming back into play (literally) and one of note that is taking place this weekend is the PGF Bownet Bash being held June 5-7 in Champions Park in Newberry, Florida for 12U and up age division players.

The event is being hosted by Jason Gusaeff of The Softball Kingdom and the PGF Northeast/Southeast Director and Bill Hoopes of Play Florida PGF and the PGF Florida State Director.

The event will feature many of the top organizations in the South (and nationally) including the Atlanta Vipers, Georgia Impact, East Cobb Bullets, Tennessee Mojo, Ohio Hawks, Firecrackers, Birmingham Vipers, Hotshots and many more.

Once the event was announced, the interest and sign-ups were immediate and strong.

“In less than 24 hours we added some of the top clubs in the Southeast, so the competition will be some of the best of the Summer,” the Director believes. “With the NCAA Division 1 dead period extended until July 31st we expect the event to be covered by Division III, NAIA and JUCO as they are able to recruit.

Gusaeff explains the origin of the event stating, “Bill and I came together and decided that with everything going on we needed to put on an event that was both safe and competitive while offering it at a reasonable price with no gate fees, stay to play etc.”

A long-time successful coach in the Georgia Impact organization, Gusaeff says next weekend’s event set-up will help alleviate concerns of safety around the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Champions Park has 16 turf fields at one location for maximum exposure,” he explains. “The park sits on a few hundred acres so social distancing will be easy to follow. The safety of the players and families is our main concern and we have been given the green light to proceed. Florida Governor (Ron) DeSantis advised that all youth sports events and play can resume in Florida, so we are excited to get back out there.”

Gusaeff says he is excited about the event not just this weekend, but for next year as well.

“This is an event that we fully expect to stick next Summer as we have the capability to get to 30 fields within close proximity of each other,” he adds.
