The Birmingham 5-Star Exposure event in Alabama this past weekend featured many top club teams in the South, if not the country and the Atlanta Vipers team coached by Allen Wiggins claimed the 18UÂ title.
The Vipers pitching was very strong on the weekend with a combined team effort ERA of 1.02 from a Berry commit (Ava Fouts), a Georgia College commit (Maliah Lee), Columbia University’s Lily McCord and Oregon commit Elyse Kresho.
The team hitting was on fire or, as aptly put by Coach Wiggens, was ” contagious” with a .399 batting average led by Southern Miss’s signee Ansley Hight, who smashed four home runs and led the team with 12 RBI’s.
To cap an 8-0 weekend, the Vipers-Wiggins squad defeated Georgia Impact – Deyton, 6-0, to capture the 18U title on Sunday at Lagoon Park Sports Complex in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Vipers Team also beat Georgia Impact Caymol National, 6-1; Fusion – Unruh/Greenwood, 7-3 along the path in bracket play and picked up $2,500 for winning the tournament title.
Other notables included Kyla Harley leading the team with a .545 average and Bayleigh Rouse, Natalie Maleitzke and Karlie Gutierrez getting in on long balls.
Ava Moon, Kacie Wiggins, Adrianna Martinez and Ari Cole all contributed to hitting as well as stellar defensive plays with a combined five double plays for the Vipers.
