EXTRA INNING SOFTBALL PERFORMANCE DATA COMBINES POWERED BY 4FLAMES

Extra Inning Softball and 4Flames Athletics have partnered to elevate athlete evaluation in fastpitch softball through advanced testing, verified performance data, and standardized on-field assessments.
Led by CEO Bonnie Holland of Extra Inning Softball and JB Slimp, founder of the Blaze Organization and leader of 4Flames Athletics, this collaboration brings together national media influence and high-level performance testing to create a more objective, data-driven approach to player development and recruiting visibility.
Together, the organizations deliver Performance Data Combines built on a two-layer evaluation system that includes Tournament Ranking Scores and Combine Metric Scores.
This structure provides athletes with measurable, trusted results while giving college coaches access to reliable, comparable performance analytics across all events.
Built Into the Game
Extra Inning Softball Combines powered by 4Flames are strategically integrated alongside high-level tournaments already taking place across the country.
This allows athletes to maximize exposure, compete, and be evaluated in one environment—without adding unnecessary travel or scheduling strain.
For tournament directors interested in elevating their event, Extra Inning Softball offers a unique opportunity to bring verified metrics, national rankings integration, and direct recruiting exposure directly to your fields.

For athletes and families looking to participate, this is your entry point into a data-driven evaluation system tied directly to national rankings and college recruiting visibility.
A Two-Layer System
Athletes have the opportunity to be evaluated through two distinct but equally important scoring systems:
Tournament Ranking Score
Athletes receive a proprietary event ranking tied directly to Extra Inning Softball’s national rankings framework. This ranking score reflects performance within a competitive, comparable environment related to the tournament.
Combine Metrics Ranking
Each measurable is tracked, validated, and scored to create a complete athletic profile. Not only will players receive their combine stats but will receive a unique ranking score specific to their combine measureables.
Real-Time Data, On-Site AccessÂ
All data is collected in real time on-site using dedicated mobile devices with redundant cellular connectivity—ensuring zero data loss in any tournament environment.Â
Athlete results flow through Virtual Combine, which powers real-time scoring and live leaderboards throughout the event.
Coaches, players, and parents can access scores instantly by scanning a QR code on-site, while digital leaderboards are displayed at the venue—creating a competitive, data-driven atmosphere that keeps athletes engaged and gives recruiting eyes immediate access to verified performance numbers.
Verified Data. Real Exposure.
All metrics collected are verified and distributed directly to college coaches at request and at no cost. This is a critical differentiator.
College programs are not looking for inflated numbers—they want trusted, standardized data. By removing barriers and providing direct access, Extra Inning Softball ensures that athletes are seen through a credible, consistent lens.
Technology Behind the TestingÂ
Every 4 Flames combine runs on a professional-grade testing infrastructure designed for one purpose: producing verified, repeatable data that college coaches can trust.Â
VALD Timing Systems measure 10-yard, 20-yard, and 40-yard sprint times with electronic precision—eliminating stopwatch error and giving coaches a true read on game speed, first-step burst, and baserunning acceleration.Â
Bowers Timing System captures the 5-10-5 Pro Agility Shuttle, isolating lateral quickness and change-of-direction ability—the movement pattern behind every defensive reaction on the diamond.Â
Just Jump by Probotics records vertical jump height from a force mat. Vertical jump is one of the strongest indicators of lower-body explosiveness, which directly fuels bat speed, throwing power, and first-step acceleration.Â
Pocket Radar delivers exit velocity and overhand throwing velocity readings accurate to within 1 MPH. Exit velo remains the most sought-after hitting metric in college softball recruiting. Throwing velocity measures arm strength across every defensive position.Â
Blast Motion sensors capture bat speed independent of exit velocity—giving coaches insight into swing mechanics and identifying athletes with high bat speed but developing contact, which signals coachable upside.Â
Grip Dynamometer measures functional grip strength—a direct indicator of bat control, throwing accuracy under fatigue, and upper-body durability.Â
Broad jump and rotational medicine ball toss round out the base testing protocol, measuring horizontal explosiveness and core rotational power—the engine behind every swing, every throw, and every pitch in softball.Â
PitchLogic powers the pitcher-specific evaluation module, capturing velocity, spin rate, spin efficiency, horizontal and vertical movement, and spin-to-velocity ratio across multiple pitch types. This data runs as a separate track from the base combine score, giving pitchers a detailed, standalone performance profile.
How We Measure
Combine scoring is built on a comprehensive, standardized evaluation system structured across three primary performance categories: Offensive Performance Indicators (OPI), Speed Performance Indicators (SPI), and Athletic Performance Indicators (API).
This model ensures that every athlete is measured consistently and compared meaningfully across all events.
Pitchers and catchers also have the option to be evaluated through additional position-specific metrics beyond OPI, SPI, and API. See more details on position-specific metric scoring below.
| OPI | SPI | API |
|---|---|---|
| Exit Velocity | 10-yard sprint | Broad Jump |
| Bat Speed | 20-yard sprint | Vertical Jump |
| Rotational Med Ball Toss | 40-yard sprint | Grip Strength |
| 5-10-5 agility | Wingspan | |
| Overhand Throw Velocity |
Pitchers & Catchers also have the option to be measured by the following metrics outlined below.
Position-Specific Metric Scoring
In addition to our core performance categories, our Performance Data Combine offers position-specific metric scoring for pitchers and catchers, providing deeper insight into the most critical skills at each position. These advanced measurements allow for a more precise evaluation of performance and enhance recruiting visibility through verified, position-relevant data.
Pitching Metrics
Velocity
Total spin
Horizontal spin
Vertical movement
Spin efficiency
Spin-to-velocity ratio
Catching Metrics

Catcher overhand velocity
What Athletes ReceiveÂ
Every athlete who participates receives a comprehensive performance report detailing their results across all testing metrics.
Reports include an individual combine ranking—showing where the athlete placed within the event—as well as a national ranking that compares their performance against athletes tested at all EIS / 4FA combine throughout the season.
Because every event uses identical equipment and standardized protocols, rankings are consistent and comparable regardless of location or date.
The New Standard
Recruiting is no longer driven by opinion alone—it is being defined by verified data aligned with trusted evaluation systems. Extra Inning Softball Combines are built to lead that shift, not follow it.
Athletes are not just showcasing ability—they are producing measurable proof of performance within a standardized, national framework.
What makes this model powerful is the source. When performance data is collected, validated, and contextualized by the same platform responsible for national rankings and player evaluation, it becomes more than numbers—it becomes recruiting currency.
