Our Extra Inning Softball National Club Player & National Club Team of the Week series moved into Week 7 for the 2020 summer season with today’s edition.
The Club Player/Team of the Week features great individual and team accomplishments from the past weekend along with those who were Runners-Up with similarly strong performances.
This week’s honorees are from games and tournaments in the week of Monday, July 20 through Sunday July 26, 2020 and includes performances at Nationals across the U.S.!

National Club Player of the Week:
Jaala Torrence (Birmingham Thunderbolts 18U Premier)
Jaala, a 2020 grad and Alabama signing, helped the Birmingham Thunderbolts 18 Premier team capture the USA Gold National Championship last Saturday by pitching two key games over a strong Hotshots Premier – Mel team.
Jaala came in as a reliever in the first contest of the championship game, 5-4 eight-inning loss, and pitched 4.2 innings giving up just 3 hits and 7 strikeouts. As t Hotshots pushed it to the IF game, Jaala needed to come up big and she did—she ended up going the distance in a 3-2 victory pitching 7 innings, giving up 4 hits, two runs, two walks with one strikeout.
The pitcher was huge in helping the Bolts 18 Premier team coached by Rocky Thompson go 10-1 at the GOLD Nationals.
“This championship is extra special because this is the first National Championship won by the 18U Premier team,” said Coach Thompson. “ Not only was this our first championship, we were honored to capture this amazing task in our Teal jerseys that represents and honors (former Thunderbolt and Mississippi State standout) Alex Wilcox, which brings awareness to Ovarian Cancer.”

Runners-Up / National Player of the Week
* Allison Benning, a 2021 right-handed pitcher with Top Gun 16U National, had a huge week at USA Softball 16U GOLD Nationals as she helped lead the team to a 6-2 record and Top 10 finish. The Oregon commit pitched 27.2 innings with 22 K’s and had a 0.76 ERA with a 0.976 WHIP and offensively hit .500 overall and .500 with runners in scoring position. She had four home runs, three doubles, 13 RBIs and scored 8 runs.
* Audrey Wilson batted .800 at the USA Softball 16U “A” National Championships to lead her Team NC – Hinde team to a 7-2 record and Top 12 finish. The 2024 C/UT player had a .824 on-base percentage and in 25 total chances didn’t make an error. Her .478 season average and .538 on-base percentage leads the team and for the summer she has a .988 fielding percentage.

Each week during the summer, Extra Inning Softball will recognize a National Club Player & Team of the Week.
Those honored will typically be announced on Tuesdays. The cutoff for submitting the nominations for Player & Team of the Week will be Mondays at 9 pm EST/6 pm PST.
* Individually, we’re looking for standouts who excelled in the circle, at the plate or in the field so be sure to nominate your favorite performance(s) by submitting the following:
- Player Name
- Grad Year (example: Class of 2021 or Incoming Senior)
- Position(s)
- Club team name with city/state
- Stats for the week (be as detailed as possible!)
- Up-to-date season stats if possible
- Recruiting information if applicable
- Any interesting background on the player
- Action and/or head shots
- If possible, contact info if we’d like more info or quotes
* Teams to be considered should include info such as record, key wins, standout performances and more for the week.
