Extra Star Power: Extra Elite 100 Pitcher Britton Rogers… Why She Plays Each Game Like It’s Her Last

Britton Rogers saw everything come together this year after she missed four months in 2017 with an injury.

One of the most impressive pitchers we saw all summer was Britton Rogers, who lives in Cypress, Texas, but plays for the Georgia Firecrackers-Sewell team that finished 3rd at PGF Nationals in 16U Premier.

During that week, the 2020 grad, who was ranked as one of the top pitchers in the Extra Elite 100 for her class, gave up two or less runs per game and averaged six strikeouts thanks to her mid-60’s fastball, a strong rise and a tough off-speed drop, but it’s her fiery competitive nature that coaches and scouts rave about.

“I am a competitor by nature and my inner passion to beat everyone is what drives me,” she says.

Firecrackers Head Coach Kyle Sewell commented earlier this fall, “Ice runs through her veins! Watch her on the mound: she gets her sign, takes a deep breath and then brings the heat. She competes each pitch.”

The Texas hurler is the daughter of collegiate pitching legend Courtney Blades-Rogers who was an All-American and record setter at Southern Miss under Lu Harris–now the head coach at Georgia where Britton will play in two years–but the teenager is blazing her own trail of success.

She was an All-State honoree as a freshman when she played at Timber Creek High in Orlando, Florida and this year had a standout sophomore prep campaign in Texas.

Then, on the club circuit, Britton was so impressive one opposing coach called her the best pitcher his team faced all summer.

A one-time competitive cheerleader who puts everything into whatever she does, Britton had an injury last year that made her appreciate softball even more and it’s all come together for this fast-rising prospect whose philosophy now is simple:

“Give it everything, every pitch, every inning, every game. Cause you just never know when it’s the last pitch you will throw.”

*****

What does it mean to you to be considered as one of the top 100 players in your class?
To me being ranked is a reward for all of the hard work, time, and effort I put into my craft. I am super thankful to be recognized as one of the best in my class, but the number isn’t what’s important to me it’s knowing that I am doing everything I can to make myself the best I can be.

Looking back on your career so far, both club and high school, what’s been your favorite experience or experiences, both in softball and off the field?
My favorite softball experience is, of course, competing in the top tournaments with my girls behind me. I love being with my team so any time we do anything together we have a blast. This past year in California at PGF Nationals I really enjoyed going to the beach, playing volleyball, and sitting around the bonfire with my teammates. We have a really strong bond and I think this plays a huge role in our success together.

Britton says it wasn’t until she was 12 that she developed a strong love for softball.

When was this first time you realized that you really loved softball and what triggered that feeling?
I’ve played softball since I was four-years-old and I have always enjoyed the game, but it wasn’t until I was around 12 and was able to compete that I really started developing a deep passion for the game. I started pitching at 11 and it was not fun, it was hard, and took a lot of time to get to level of my peers. My mom sat on the bucket and worked for hours with me (not always being the nicest!). She was my pitching coach, and still is, but I have evolved as a pitcher and absolutely love having the ball in my hand. She still sits on the bucket, but my lessons are quite nice now…for the most part. I love to compete so being a pitcher was definitely my spot.
