Extra Star Power: Tallen Edwards… Top 5 Player in 2023 Extra Elite 100 With an Eye on the Finish Line!

Uncommitted 2023 SS/UT Tallen Edwards might be the youngest player on one of the most talented 18U clubs in the nation, but you would never know it by her unstoppable training tactics and play on the field.

Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier had just won the USA Softball 18U GOLD Nationals championship and Edwards was back to running her softball business. She gives hitting, defensive and speed and agility lessons to kids around Oklahoma.

“Tallen is such a talented athlete and has so many skills on the field,” Samford-bound OF Abigail Dorsett said. “Defensively, she is very aggressive and quick and is determined to get someone out. At the plate, she may look small but she can do anything at the plate whether it’s power hitting or just needing to move a runner over. Something that makes her unique is probably her age because she is young, but you would never know that because she is very mature.”

Maturity, talent, tenacity and grit are terms that come up from her teammates when describing her. And she’s a “dog,” which is a term of endearment when describing any ballplayer.

“She’s a dog out on the field and she can get/field any ball in her direction,” LSU-committed 2021 UT Kaylen Madrey said. “Whenever she gets a hit, it makes the whole team get hype and ready to play. Though she is the youngest on the team, you wouldn’t be able to tell. She plays very mature for her age.”

The amateur singer/artist, who has had to deal with Alopecia her whole life, has made a huge impact on her older teammates.

“This was my first and last year playing with Tallen and she was by far the best shortstop I’ve ever played with,” Alabama-bound pitcher Jaala Torrence said. “As a pitcher, knowing that I had her behind me on defense gave me even more confidence in the circle. I’ve watched her make several tough plays that would have easily been deemed hits, but what impresses me most about Tallen is the amount of maturity and leadership she plays with at such a young age. Tallen’s level of play raises the level of play for the whole team. She is an amazing player and a great teammate and I’m so glad I got to play with her.”
