Five Rookies to Watch in Athletes Unlimited Season 3

Season 3 of Athletes Unlimited kicks off this week, with 60 players who have flocked to Rosemont, Illinois to take part in the league’s third summer softball offering.

Among the group of players are nearly two dozen rookies, including twelve players who will don an AU uniform for the first time and an additional ten players who participated in the league’s AUX mini-series offering earlier this summer but will play their first full summer.

Here are five AU rookies to watch in Season 3.

Mia Davidson

The Mississippi State great doesn’t seem to have skipped a beat in the transition from college to the pros; she knocked a home run in a scrimmage last week and was one of the first players drafted for Week 1 of play this season. The power-hitting stud also has something in the pro league that she only occasionally had while in college – true lineup protection. She was a dangerous hitter in college but has the potential to be unstoppable at the pro level.

Andrea Filler

Calling Filler’s last twelve months “busy” might be an understatement; the Northwestern product joined Team Italy in time for the Tokyo Olympics and has since seen her post-college career flourish with excellent play when given the opportunity. She was one who signed on to take part in the AUX mini-league, which then led to her signing on for the full summer season. Filler’s defense is still solid and her bat is still loaded.

Danielle Gibson

Gibson was chosen in the AU “draft” during the college season and joined the league for the AUX offering in June; at one point, her play was impressive enough for her to earn a spot as a team captain during one week of the mini-series. Now Gibson will put her skills on display for a full AU season – her time at Arkansas and in AUX proved already how dangerous her bat is and can be.

Rachel Lewis

During her time in college, Lewis was as good as they come for the ‘Cats and now she has a chance to put those same skills on display in front of what truly amounts to a hometown crowd for her. Lewis was the only graduate from the 2022 Women’s College World Series-bound Northwestern group and her alma mater’s loss is certainly AU’s gain.

Peyton St. George

One of the inaugural stars in Duke softball history, St. George was part of laying a stellar foundation for the Blue Devils and for the program’s future. She starred in the circle for Duke, was another player chosen in the AU “draft” during the college season, and will make her pro debut this week. St. George was a high draft pick in the league’s first weekly player draft, and was actually chosen by Amanda Chidester, who once coached her in the early years at Duke.
