Hall of Fame Club Coach Gary Haning Issues Personal Statement

Last Saturday, the fastpitch softball world held its collective breath when news came out of Anaheim, California that Hall of Fame coach Gary Haning was in a serious car accident and was hospitalized after being extracted from his car which rolled five times and landed upside-down.

Click HERE to read the original story that details more on the accident as well as a brief history of Gary’s accomplished career.

Two days ago, the co-founder of Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF), posted on his personal Facebook page a brief note stating:

“Thanks to all of you. I am fine but my tryout for stunt-driving didn’t go well.”

This afternoon, the long-time coach of the powerhouse OC Batbuster program reached out to Extra Inning Softball’s Brentt Eads and asked that we post the following statement to update his status and thank those who’ve been concerned in his behalf (we’re happy to report that, though his car came out worse for the wear, the long-time coach certainly hasn’t lost his wit):

*****

Haning was inducted into the NFCA Hall of Fame in December, 2017.

I don’t use Facebook very much and I am not sure how to best post this so I asked Brentt Eads to post this for me.

First, I want to thank the people who got me out of my car, I just spoke with someone who told me that was very difficult because the door would not open with the car upside down.

Special thanks to the man and woman who unlatched my seat belt and helped pull me out. I was kinda like a beached whale hanging on my seat belt and I was disoriented to the extent that I could not find which side the latch was on. I never lost consciousness but I was a little shaky.

Once again, I want to thank all of the people who offered prayers and good wishes, I even had some umpires wish me well and one ASA/USA Softball Official but he/she requested anonymity so he/she does not get fired.

I am okay and I will be fine, PLEASE, wear your seatbelt every time you are in a car.

Gary Haning
