On Jan. 24, 2024, Emi Jeras, a 2025 catcher and third baseman for Top Gun 16 National, committed to the University of Rhode Island to further her education and softball career.
Jeras has been playing softball since she was seven years old, playing three years of rec ball before becoming part of a local travel ball team in 10u. A catcher by trade, Jeras did not always want to be behind the plate.
“I resisted being a catcher at first until my coach told me I would be touching the ball every single play, and I wanted the ball, so the rest is history,” she said.
She continued playing locally through her 11u and 12u years. During this time, she started doing catching and hitting work with Rob Kennedy, a former division I catcher.
“He saw so much potential in me as a former Division 1 catcher, and I started putting in a lot of hard work with him and that was a gamechanger for me,” Jeras said. “He also helped me develop my swing and become a better and more consistent hitter. The more success I saw on the field came the realization that I wanted more of a challenge, so I moved to a regional team in Ohio for my 13u/14u seasons.”
