On Monday, we told you the frightening story of freshman Katie Sullivan, an outfielder at Div. III Waynesburg University in Waynesburg, Pa.
On Monday, New Year’s Day, she was taken to the hospital due to an infection and the next day had to be life flighted to the Allegheny General Hospital (Pittsburgh, Pa.) Intensive Care Unit to get more urgent care.
By Wednesday, the situation had deteriorated to where Katie required mechanical ventilation to help her breath and dialysis to aid her failed kidneys.
The situation got even worse last Saturday (Jan. 6, 2024) as doctors discovered that there was a brain injury that led to seizure activity.
The athlete’s mother, Shannon Sullivan, said over the weekend that “We were given a poor prognosis for survival due to her deterioration in her neurological status. We knew we needed a miracle.”
That miracle appears to have happened sooner and more amazingly positive than most could have imagined or predicted.
On Tuesday, the athlete’s mother posted:
The good news continued into today as Katie is moving out of the ICU.
