Mark Montgomery has resigned as head coach at Maryland.
“My four years at Maryland have been very rewarding and it was exciting to be a part of the resurgence of a proud program competing in one of the best conferences in the country,” Montgomery said in a statement.
“The past two years our family has dealt with some challenges. I have decided to step down from my position in order to have more time to focus on what’s most important to me. I look forward to returning to the game of softball when the time is right. I wish the Maryland softball program continued success.
The head coach of the Terrapins for the last four seasons, Montgomery engineered a program turnaround, posting 98 wins during his tenure. The Terps made their first postseason appearance in more than a decade in 2023, reaching the National Invitational Softball Championship postseason tournament.
Prior to Maryland, Montgomery was the head coach at Louisiana Tech. He led the Lady Techsters to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances via Conference USA championships. His coaching resume also includes stints as head coach at Georgetown (KY), Centenary, and Northern Colorado.
