Alameda, Bruggeman Headline NFCA Hall of Fame Class of 2023

Florida State head coach Lonni Alameda and NFCA executive director Carol Bruggeman are among the group of four who were announced as the Class of 2023 on Friday night.

The announcement was made at the conclusion of the Hall of Fame banquet at the 2022 NFCA Convention in San Antonio.

Joining Alameda and Bruggeman in the elected quartet are Rowan University head coach Kim Wilson and retired Moravian head coach John Byrne. Wilson and Byrne are both Division III coaches.

Alameda is entering her 15th season as the head coach at Florida State, where she has led the program to impressive heights, including the first national championship in program history in 2018. She owns 667 wins while at FSU, has never missed the NCAA tournament with the Seminoles, and has led the program to four Women’s College World Series appearances. Prior to her tenure at FSU, she spent five years as the head coach at UNLV and led the Rebels to an NCAA regional. She owns seven conference Coach of the Year awards across the ACC and Mountain West conferences.

Bruggeman has served as the NFCA’s Executive Director since February of 2016. During her tenure, she has overseen growth and improvements across the organization, including reaching an organizational high of 6,300 members in October of 2022. She enjoyed a lengthy college coaching career prior to joining the NFCA, including as head coach at Purdue, and is also an active television analyst for ESPN.

Wilson owns more than 900 career victories, eclipsing the 900-win milestone during the 2022 season. In nearly three decades at Rowan, she has led the Profs to eight conference titles and eighteen NCAA tournament appearances. While at Rowan, she has led the program to four Super Regional appearances with a championship tournament appearance in 2018.

Byrne retired from the helm of the Moravian program following the 2022 season. In nearly three decades at the program’s helm, he amassed over 900 wins, also eclipsing the milestone number during the 2022 campaign. He owns a .782 winning percentage as head coach, seventeen conference titles, and eighteen NCAA tournament appearances. His staff earned conference Coaching Staff of the Year honors seven times and regional Staff of the Year honors on four occasions.

The quartet will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2023, at the annual convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Upon their induction, the Hall of Fame’s membership will rise to 96 individuals.
