Sidney Lee spent the first two years of her career at Lee University, starting behind the plate for the Flames. She earned First Team all-conference honors in 2022 and Second Team all-conference honors in 2023.

Lee batted .366 over those two seasons, with sixteen home runs and 81 RBIs to her credit. She scored 42 runs. Even more impressive, though, might be her steadiness behind the dish: from the catcher’s spot, Lee made just three errors in two seasons, collecting a .992 fielding percentage in consecutive seasons.

Following her entrance into the transfer portal, we caught up with Lee for our inaugural Portal Spotlight article of the summer.

On her proudest accomplishment on the field…

Sidney Lee: I am most proud of receiving first-team all-conference catcher for the [Gulf South Conference] as a freshman. I am proud of this because it was an award that I didn’t expect to receive. Coming into my first season, I was the third-string for my team and hardly played at all. Then, as the season progressed, I challenged myself to compete and improve and it paid off. I also ended up receiving a couple of all-region awards in the post-season.

On her main priorities in a new home…

Sidney Lee: My biggest priority is the quality of education. I want to make sure I’m prioritizing my academics just as much as my athletics. Next, I want to play on a team with like-minded players who have the same goal in mind: to compete and win. I want to be a part of a team that strives to compete in every aspect of the game and has a championship mindset.

On the ideal qualities in a new coach and program…

Sidney Lee: I value a program that would hold me accountable and push me to develop in my sport every time I step onto the field. I value a coach that is approachable, professional, and who values my input.

On navigating the portal…

Sidney Lee: The toughest part of this process was the initial decision of entering the portal. I struggled with it for quite a while. It was hard knowing that I would have to leave my teammates at Lee, who I grew very close to. Now that I have been in the portal for a few weeks, it is not as scary as it seemed at first. I have had several coaches contact me, which gives me a good feeling that I made the right decision.
