Going up against the Major League Baseball All-Star Game Tuesday night, it wouldn’t have been a surprise if the viewership dipped as the Scrap Yard Fast Pitch teams took the field for the last home series of the summer in Conroe, Texas.
Au contraire, as tens of thousands of softball fans and aficionados watched Tuesday night’s team featuring dozens of the top softball players in the world, many of whom had played last week in the USA Softball International Cup.
The viewing numbers, in fact, were among the highest of the season showing that the sport is growing and the Scrap Yard Fast Pitch teams and players are developing a strong following.
In a well-played game that saw the Nationals jump out to a two-run lead in the top of the second inning courtesy of a two RBI double by Jazmyn Jackson, the Scrap Yard team went ahead for good in the bottom of the third in its 4-3 victory as Katiyana Mauga hit a two-run home run to left field.
Alexis Silkwood started and went six innings for Scrap Yard to earn the victory as she scattered eight runs and gave up three earned runs before Morgan Foley closed it out in the 7th inning.
Kylee Hanson went 4 2/3 innings for the Nationals and gave up all four runs to take the loss.
