EXTRA SPOTLIGHT: MALLIE WEST
LHP Mallie West, #69 in the 2025 Extra Elite 100, is a top player for nationally-ranked Hotshots National 16U-Jones and a multi-sport star for New Waverly High.
West, a USA Softball HPP selection, recently talked with Extra Inning Softball about her softball journey, softball camps and more.

Travel Ball Highlights/Fall Stats: Played both 16U and 18U divisions in the fall because Hotshots played up a lot. She went 10-2, allowed 8 earned runs, 44 IP, 40 Ks with 0.925 opposing WHIP.
Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them?
We all just sort of clicked. No matter how long we go without seeing each other, we just pick up wherever we left off. It’s just really a great environment to be a part of. My previous team had split. I was looking for a new home and I had three major things I was looking for. A great culture, excellent coaches and a high level skill-set team. When I tried out for Coach (Steve) Jones’ team that’s exactly what I found.
What should we expect from your club team this summer?
This summer, you should expect to see a highly-competitive season like this team always has. We aren’t just going to settle for good, we want to be great. Once again, this team expects to be one of the highest ranked teams in the country and my coach expects us to be in contention for a national title again. We are attending several top events like Hotshots Invitational in Houston, Colorado Fireworks, Top Club Nationals in Oklahoma and PGF in California.
Have you been to softball camps? Which one and which ones do you plan to attend?
I was invited to several camps and had the chance to attend a few of those camps at some great schools, such as Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma State. I plan on attending more this year.
What are you expecting from high school softball?
I’m expecting a great season with my teammates. Can’t wait to see how the season goes.
Do you have a secret talent/skill?
It’s not a secret, but I play many sports. I play softball, basketball and volleyball. However, softball is my number one!
What’s your most memorable softball story?
My most memorable softball stories would have to be our team TikToks. In our free time, you can always catch us doing the latest trends. We enjoy each other so much it’s hard to choose one story.
