MUSTANGS ADVANCE TO WFC FINALS
Katelyn Kistler delivered a two-run single in the top of the sixth as Tampa Mustangs-TJ, #4 in the Extra Elite Eighty 18U Club Rankings, rallied to a 5-4 victory over Indiana Shockwaves-Perry, which won the Top Gun Invitational two weeks ago, in the 18U semifinals of the USA Elite Select WFC Thursday at Viera Space Coast Complex, FL.
Kistler went 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs, McKenzie Clark went 2 for 4 with an SB, Taylor Krapf went 1 for 3 with an RBI, Kali Reis went 2 for 4 with a run scored and two SBs and Jenna Laird went 1 for 1 with a run scored for the Mustangs.
Claire Davidson pitched two scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts to lock down the victory for Tampa.
“Great game against a great team,” Mustangs coach TJ Goelz said. “Very impressed with those guys, well-coached. All their hitters were tough outs and their pitching was the best we have seen this tournament. We knew they won 16s last year and would give us a good game. We left 10 runners on base and had more chances to score, so we need to fix that to win this thing. Great to have our pitching to give different looks and speeds.”
STARS DROP MUSTANGS
Morgan Hess tossed a one-hitter with three walks and five strikeout to help Stars National-Belfield, #45 in the Extra Elite Eighty 16U Club Rankings, pick up a 2-0 victory over #20 Tampa Mustangs-Maguire in the 16U semifinals of the USA Elite Select WFC.
Gainesville Gold-Thomas faces Firecrackers FL Gold 16U on Friday at 8 a.m., the winner takes on Tampa Mustangs-Maguire at 10:15 a.m. and the winner of that game takes on the Stars for the WFC title at 12:30 p.m.
Sara Gordon had an RBI single in the top of the first and Alyssa Henault drove in Kennedy Rhue with a squeeze in the top of the fifth to provide the offense for the Stars.
