EXTRA ELITE PROFILE: EMILY JONES
Stanford-bound MIF Emily Jones, #9 in the 2022 Extra Elite 100, recently talked to Extra Inning Softball about her softball journey, Firecrackers-Rico, Westlake High and playing rival Oaks Christian High and back flips.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them?
I joined Firecrackers in the fall of 2019 of my sophomore year. I learned an entirely new perspective of the game and was taught the importance of the mental aspect. Coach Tony (Rico) taught me how to really simplify the game and what it takes to compete at the highest level. I have been surrounded by the most amazing people and teammates during my three years on the Firecrackers. Especially my first year on the team, having the seniors (who I already looked up to) show me the ropes on how to play the game the right way and what it means to be a good teammate and I am forever grateful for that.
Can you talk about your experience at Westlake High?
I’ve had an amazing experience at Westlake and truly couldn’t have asked for a better one. I’ve met the greatest people in my life during my four years. Westlake softball has been the highlight of my high school experience. I was lucky enough to be surrounded by the best teammates and the best coaching staff that always have my back and push me to be the best athlete I can be.
What’s the rivalry like between Westlake High and Oaks Christian? How have you done in that rivalry?
The games against Oaks Christian were the highlight of my season last year. The competitiveness, the energy and the intensity is what made me look forward to playing Oaks Christian every year. They are a tough team to play and we always had to make sure we’re on our “A” game if we wanted to come out on top. (Oaks Christian pitcher) Michaela Kastor is a very tough pitcher to face, so I always made sure I prepared weeks before I had to face her. Both pitchers — Michaeal Kastor and (Westlake’s pitcher) Kylie Chung — dealt a great game which is the reason why each game was so close.
