EXTRA ELITE SPOTLIGHT: KELSEY MATHIS
Texas A&M-committed OF Kelsey Mathis, #11 in the 2024 Extra Elite 100, recently talked to Extra Inning Softball about Centex Buzz 16U Gold, personal trainer, more quality at-bats, Impact Gold-Jazz, education and coaching, Texas A&M, Sydney Romero, Young Thug, “Chicago PD” and drawing.

Travel Ball Highlights/Summer Stats: .479 AVG, .593 OBP, 26 RBIs, 4 HRs and 23 SBs.
High School Highlights/Stats: .482 AVG, .540 OBP, 54 hits, 37 RBIs and 8 HRs.
Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? We are all like a family. We have fun and enjoy softball all at once. The coaches are amazing and treat us like their own!
What are some of your training methods/training routine? I have a personal trainer that I go to twice a week and I also hit after practice!
What areas are you focusing on/trying to improve this fall? I am really trying to focus on having more quality at-bats and finding the perfect pitch for me to hit!
Which player/team was your toughest opponent and why? I would say Impact Gol-Jazz is the toughest opponent we have played! They always put up a fight, but I enjoy playing against them! The energy they bring is something we have to compete against and I love it!
What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I want to go into education and coaching! I love kids and getting to help them in every way possible!
Can you talk about your decision to commit to Texas A&M? I decided to commit to Texas A&M because of the coaches and the atmosphere! The coaches are amazing and I feel I can learn so much from them! I have only known them for a little bit, but in the little amount of time they have truly showed me what my future home should feel like! The atmosphere speaks for itself with the support from all of the fans, no matter the sport!
Who is your sports hero and why? I would say Sydney Romero is my sports hero! I have always loved the way she plays the game with so much energy and effort! I met her in 2018 when Oklahoma played Baylor and she was so sweet and I could tell she truly cares about her fans!
What’s the best hype song and why? The best hype song is “Bubbly” by Young Thug because it just has the perfect beat and overall just a great song before a game!
What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? My favorite TV show to binge watch is “Chicago PD” or any crime-related show! I find them very interesting and seeing what really goes on during an investigation!
Do you have a secret talent/skill? I am really good at drawing! If I see a picture, I can just look at it and draw the exact same thing without tracing it!
