EXTRA ELITE SPOTLIGHT: JACLYN MORRA
Villanova-committed 3B/SS Jaclyn Morra, #24 in the 2024 Extra Elite 100, recently talked to Extra Inning Softball about Lady Dukes Gold-Torres, hitting, strength and cardio, getting stronger, Nebraska Gold, medical field, Villanova, Lou Gehrig, Dr. Dre, “Full House” and baking.

Honors: All-Long Island Team; All-State Team; two-time Season MVP; and #24 in the 2024 Extra Elite 100.
Travel Ball Highlights/Summer Stats: .445 AVG, 70 ABs, 31 hits and 28 RBIs.
High School Highlights/Stats: .500 AVG, 78 PAs, 35 hits and 41 RBIs.
Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? I play for Lady Dukes Gold-Torres, a very competitive team that plays in the top tournaments around the country. I was very familiar with Coach Juan Torres and liked the way he ran his team. He goes above and beyond for each player in the organization whether it is at the D1, D2, or D3 level, and I decided I would be best fit there.
What are some of your training methods/training routine? I work on hitting 4-5 times a week and strength and cardio train 3-4 times a week.
What areas are you focusing on/trying to improve this fall? I want to get stronger and faster and continuously learn the knowledge of the game.
Which player/team was your toughest opponent and why? Nebraska Gold. We faced them in Colorado. They were a very well-balanced and well-educated team with talent at all positions.
What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am interested in the medical field, specifically a Physician’s Assistant. I like working with people and the ultimate goal is to help them out.
Can you talk about your decision to commit to Villanova? Villanova has always been a top choice of mine. It was a perfect mix to go to get a great education as well as playing a high level of softball. They have also been a competitor and winner for the Big East championship the past few years and I am looking to help the team further their success when I get there. Coach Bridget Orchard, Coach (Gabby) Luety, and Coach (Chelsea) Plimpton made me feel at home on my visit and gave me a great opportunity to place my future at Villanova.
Who is your sports hero and why? Lou Gehrig. A Yankee player who wasn’t frequently in the lineup until he got his chance and from then stayed on the field for 2100 consecutive games. It shows me that when you’re given a chance to make the most of it.
What’s the best hype song and why? “Still D.R.E.” (by Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg). I love the beat of it and it pumps me up!
What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Full House.” I like the show because it’s family oriented and funny!
Do you have a secret talent/skill? I am a very good baker, my favorite is to cook around the holidays, especially Christmas.
