SCOUTING REPORT: PROSPEX GOLD 18U
TLI will be taking a look at some of the top teams from across the nation as the fall season heats up.
Today we take a look at Matt Adams’ Alabama-based team, Prospex Gold 18U.
Here are the team’s summer record/top finishes:
- 21-6 during coronavirus-shortened summer season
- Finished tied for ninth place at USA GOLD Nationals with notable wins over LLG NOVA, Batbusters-Gomes and Firecrackers-Rico/Weil.
What will it take for your team to be successful this season? For this group to be successful it will take a day in day out level of consistency. We return just a couple from last years 18U team, but add several very talented players from the 16U team. We have a standard at which we expect to play and for us to get where we need to be we will have to find that consistent approach mentioned above and fill the leadership role on the field we lost. I expect is to be able to do that.
What can we expect from your offense? Our offense should be the strong point of our team. We lost our lead-off hitter, Kristen White, to injury last season and she is healthy, which will help tremendously. We have several girls who have elite offensive skill-sets, which should allow us to compete at the plate against anyone. I expect big things from our team offensively.
RETURNERS:
- McKenzie Brown (2021, 1B/UT, a versatile player, who has an advanced understanding of the game and batted in second spot for 18U team this past summer)
- Madi Cronic (2021, MIF, great power and work ethic and ill be counted on to fill a large leadership role. She hit five HRs this past summer)
- Chloe Derrick (2021, IF, a game changer that can hit for tremendous power and play all infield positions. She’s one of the top hitters from the region and has a great understanding of the game)
- Sara Beth Brake (2021, C, one of the top 2021 catchers in Southeast, a leader who hit nine HRs this past summer and is as good at eliminating baserunners trying to steal)
- Karis Lentz (2022, OF, an elite bat that changes the game, she hit 14 HRs in five tourneys this past summer. She led the team in HRs, RBIs and batting average. She will be a mainstay in the middle of the order and can change the game with one swing)
- Tyler Erwin (2021, P, throws in the low 60s with good movement and has the potential to be an elite pitcher)
