Today is National Family Day 2022… Here Are Two Submissions That We Loved

Get access to even more Extra Inning Softball content!

How great it is to be a softball player when you can enjoy the support of your immediate family as well as your extended family  – your teammates and coaches!

Today—Monday, September 26, 2022—is National Family Day and last week we asked our Extra Inning Softball readers to share their thoughts on this day when we appreciate those closest to us, be they blood related or not.

Thanks for all the great expressions of love and appreciation and we’re printing our two favorites as these pair of players, who coincidentally both compete for a “Lady” club team, perfectly sum up what the meaning of this day is all about.

Enjoy these two perspectives on nuclear and softball “families” …

Mia Galella is a Class of 2025 corner infielder/outfielder from Pennsylvania who plays for the Lady Dukes 16U Gold team and has been a long-time blogger for Extra Inning Softball… click HERE to read her latest Inside Pitch.

Mia’s National Family Day submission speaks to the love and support she has from her family…

Mia Galella’s family (l-r): Tom (dad), Mia, Jules (sister) and Michelle (mom).

My family means everything to me.

I would not be the person that I am today without my family. They have always been there for me no matter the circumstances.

My family has always done the best they can for me, and they have provided everything I could ever ask for in order for me to achieve my goals and see my dreams become a reality.

They have always supported me regarding decisions that I have made. My family has always wanted the best for me which means the world to me.

I love my family so much.

Mia

Abbie Fales’ family (l-r): Melissa (mom), Emma, Abbie and Ray (dad).

Abigail (Abbie) Fales is a Class of 2024 utility player who lines up in the middle infield and outfield as needed for the Lady Magic 18U – Boykin team out of California.

In Abbie’s entry, she touches on how much her team and travel ball program is like an “extended family” …

Family isn’t just the people you’re related to… it can also be your team.

Those who are with you during your highest highs, like making the big play, and in your lowest lows, like the strikeout in the championship game.

Lady Magic players and parents are unique in that they are genuinely happy for the success of all players. They are there for rides to the games, doing laundry at out-of-town tournaments or helping feed players between games.

While I am very grateful for my actual family and their support, I feel very blessed to have such an amazing extended family too.

Abbie
