Breaking News: Top 25 Finalists Announced for 2022 Collegiate Player of the Year Award

USA Softball announced on Wednesday the 25 finalists for the Collegiate Player of the Year award.

Defending national champions Oklahoma placed four players on the list – slugger Jocelyn Alo, pitcher Jordy Bahl, outfielder Jayda Coleman, and shortstop Grace Lyons. The Sooners were one of three programs to place multiple players on the list, with UCLA and Arizona State the others, each represented by two players in the group of finalists. The Bruins placed pitchers Holly Azevedo and Megan Faraimo on the list, while Arizona State is represented by outfielder Yannira Acuna and infielder Cydney Sanders.

The defending National Player of the Year, Alo, will vie for the award for the second-consecutive season. She is the only previous award winner on this year’s list of finalists.

A total of twenty programs placed at least one player on the list, with six different conferences represented. South Florida’s Georgina Corrick and Wichita State’s Sydney McKinney are the only two players on the list of finalists to come from non-Power 5 schools.

Wednesday’s list of 25 finalists will be narrowed down to ten finalists on May 4th, with the list being further trimmed to three finalists on May 18th. The Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced prior to the Women’s College World Series.

Ten of the award finalists are pitchers, while the remaining fifteen are position players. The full list of finalists is below.
