We like to honor athletes for their outstanding efforts and when we saw this video, we knew that Aliyah Dugars, a 2024 corner infielder with the PS33 Academy 14U – Archie team, should be recognized!
Here’s the context of the play.
It happened on Monday, August 31, 2020, during the semi-finals of the American Fastpitch Association (AFA) Southwestern Nationals in St. George, Utah.
The game was tied in the top of the 7th inning as Aliyah’s PS33 was the home team versus the Twisters out of Bakersfield, California. There was one out and a runner on second when a weak flair was hit and… well, you need to watch the video clip!
Aliyah, the PS33 Academy’s lefty first baseman, was playing third when she made the play.
According to Coach Bonita Allen, the co-founder of PS33 Academy, “That was a game-changing momentum shift… the next out was a grounder to shortstop to end the inning and PS33 came up in the bottom of the inning to win it.”
Aliyah also had a hit and a walk to help her team finish 2nd in the 14U Silver Championships at the AFA event.
“She is a heads-up gamer!” added Allen of the freshman from El Dorado Hills, California who attends Folsom (California) High.
Congrats to Aliyah, who will make our lists this week as we honor the Class of 2024 players ranked 101-500!
