Thanks to our friends at Athletes Go Live who sent us this complete game video stream of the USA Softball GOLD Nationals championship game that was held last Saturday, July 25, 2020.
As we covered in our Event Recap (July 25, 2020): No Quit in Hotshots at 16U GOLD Nationals; Bolts Take 18U GOLD Title article, the Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier added another major national title to its 2020 summer haul by beating Hotshots Premier-Dumezich, 3-2, in the “IF” game to capture the USA Softball 18U GOLD Nationals championship on Saturday at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in OKC.
“Throughout this whole week the team was locked in on finishing the season,” Bolts coach Rocky Thompson said. “This was truly a team effort as well as a test of will and dedication facing Hotshots. Jaala Torrence took the work load in the pitching department. The defense made several plays, along with Tallen Edwards making some big time plays to keep runners off base. It wasn’t the prettiest win but it was truly fought for. I couldn’t be more proud of these young ladies this season. Go Bolts!”
Southern Mississippi-bound Natalie Hurdle and Washington-bound Lilly Agan had RBI singles and uncommitted 2023 UT Tallen Edwards added a sacrifice fly to drive in a third run as the Bolts took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second of the winner-take-all game.
Louisiana Lafayette-commit Samantha Graeter came through with a two-run blast in the top of the fourth to help the Hotshots close the gap to 3-2.
Alabama-bound Jaala Torrence allowed four hits and two runs in five innings to pick up the save for the Thunderbolts, who won the Atlanta Legacy Showcase 18U Invitational two weeks ago.
Michigan-commit Annabelle Widra went 2 for 3 with a stolen base and a run scored and Purdue-bound Kiley Goff had two hits for the Bolts.
