HARRISONBURG, Va. — James Madison head softball coach Loren LaPorte announced the hiring of Wayne Pettry as assistant coach.
Pettry returns to the valley after he spent the 2023 season at Auburn, where he worked as a video analyst for the Tigers. He previously served as a volunteer assistant for the Dukes in 2022.
“It is with great joy that we welcome Wayne Pettry back into the program as an assistant coach,” LaPorte said. “As a former Duke himself, Wayne is not just a dedicated young coach with a very bright future, but he is truly a family member who is coming home. His knowledge, loyalty, and work ethic will allow us to achieve greater success within the Sun Belt Conference.”
A 2020 graduate of JMU, Pettry spent four years as an undergraduate student manager for the Dukes, where he assisted in day-to-day practices and oversaw in-game video analysis. Â He was part of a staff that captured CAA Championships in 2017 and 2019, advancing to the program’s second NCAA Super Regional at UCLA in 2019.
Prior to his time as a volunteer assistant at JMU, Pettry served as an assistant coach for the Harrisonburg High School varsity and junior varsity softball programs.
