HOLIDAY & NEWS

Discover how Lighting the World and Giving Machines inspire service and generosity in 2025 through meaningful acts of giving.

Lighting the World as 2025 comes to a close! At Extra Inning Softball, we intentionally promote initiatives that reflect our core mission: to inspire, empower, and support communities through purpose-driven action. After thoughtful review, we identified the Light the World campaign as a powerful alignment—one that champions kindness, service, and hope on a global scale.

Making a Difference in the World

Light the World is a global initiative led by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that encourages individuals, families, and communities to serve others throughout the holiday season. Grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ, the campaign focuses on spreading hope, kindness, and love—especially during December, when generosity and reflection are top of mind.

By participating in the Lighting the World initiative, we can make a significant impact in our communities and beyond.

Through simple, daily acts of service, participants are empowered to positively impact their communities and the lives of others. The program provides daily prompts and resources designed to help individuals follow the example of Jesus Christ—the Light of the World—making service accessible, intentional, and deeply meaningful.

We now invite the softball community to stand with us in this impactful movement. As a sport rooted in teamwork, discipline, and leadership, softball has a unique ability to drive positive change beyond the field. By supporting Light the World, we can collectively amplify compassion and create meaningful moments of service during a season defined by giving.

Just as Light the World encourages Christlike service, Extra Inning Softball is proud to support the campaign by sharing its message and impact with our nationwide audience. Together, we can lead by example and make a difference—one intentional act of service at a time.

Light the World with Giving Machines

A standout feature of the “Light the World” initiative is the Giving Machines—a creative, interactive way for people to give to those in need. These vending machines, stationed in cities worldwide, allow donors to purchase items like food, clothing, livestock, and more for individuals or families facing challenges. Since the Light the World Giving Machines initiative began in 2017, the program has raised nearly $50 million in donations worldwide to support local and international charities. Learn more HERE!

Whether it’s contributing to shelter, healthcare, education, career training, Giving Machines allow people to share the joy of giving in a memorable and impactful way.

Lighting the World Together

This holiday season, the softball community has an opportunity to lead with purpose. Whether through meaningful acts of service, supporting Giving Machines, or intentionally spreading kindness in everyday moments, every action has impact.

Together, we can honor the true spirit of Christmas by uplifting others and living out our shared values of service, unity, and compassion. Let’s come together as one team to make this season unforgettable for those who need it most.

Passing Down the Joy of Giving

This year, my parents sent a letter to my siblings, me, and all of their grandchildren, asking us to use the gift cards they gave us to donate through a local Giving Machine—and then send them a photo afterward. It was a simple request, yet one deeply rooted in intention, generosity, and shared values.

My family and I will be visiting our local Giving Machine this weekend, and we are looking forward to the time together. It’s a meaningful reminder that some of the most lasting gifts aren’t wrapped—they’re experienced through service, connection, and the opportunity to give back as a family.

As we celebrate this Christmas season, I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas. My hope is that you experience the true joy that comes from giving—finding meaning, connection, and purpose through acts of service that uplift others during this special time of year.
