Twice the Talent: National Twin Day Softball Edition

Twice the Talent: National Twin Day Softball Edition
Meagan and Morgan Brown

National Twin Day on December 18 is the perfect excuse to celebrate double the joy, double the personality, and double the softball magic. In a sport built on chemistry, timing, and trust, twins bring something uniquely electric. From matching intensity in warm-ups to finishing each other’s thoughts in the dugout, there’s an undeniable synchronicity that feels almost supernatural. They read each other without speaking, compete without holding back, and support each other with a loyalty that makes everyone around them smile.

To make this celebration even more special, we reached out to softball parents raising twins—as well as twins currently playing Division I college softball—and asked them two simple questions: What makes your twins’ bond unique both on and off the field? and How are their personalities different, and how do those differences help them as teammates?
Their stories poured in with laughter, chaos, pride, and the unforgettable moments only twin families truly experience. Whether it’s car rides filled with sibling debates, mirror-image batting stances, or the thrill of watching two daughters succeed in the same lineup, the journey is nothing short of extraordinary.

Twin softball players don’t just bring double the talent—they bring double the heart. Their bond elevates their teams, energizes their sidelines, and reminds us why this sport is so deeply rooted in connection and joy.

Happy National Twin Day to all the duos who make the game twice as bright.

Twice the Talent: National Twin Day Softball Edition
Meagan and Morgan Brown
Meagan and Morgan Brown
Meagan and Morgan Brown: ULM Softball

We love playing softball together because it allows us to see each other succeed. It also gives us the chance to be each other’s biggest fans and strongest supporters through both the good and the challenging moments. We push and encourage one another in a way nobody else can. Sharing the field with my sister makes every moment more meaningful.

About us as teammates:
Meagan is very levelheaded and consistent. She brings calmness, stability, and leads by example for everyone around her.

Morgan is a vocal leader who brings the same intensity every day and is everyone’s biggest supporter. Her strengths include consistency in all areas of the game and a constant drive to improve while helping everyone around her do the same.

Emma and Ava Flowers

Emma and Ava Flowers: Corona Angels FTS 14U

What makes Emma‘s and Ava’s bond unique on and off the field is that one has the Kobe (Emma) mentality and one has the Shaquille (Ava) O’Neal mentality. Emma has a real, serious Mamba mindset when it comes to softball and academics. Ava is a warm, fun-loving person who doesn’t mind the limelight.

Both of their mindsets balance each other out. When it’s time to lock in and get serious, Emma makes sure Ava is focused. And when it’s time to stay loose and have fun, Ava takes over and keeps Emma—and her teammates—relaxed. They have different personalities like Kobe and Shaq, but together those differences help them be successful at the same time.

Also, a fun fact: Emma and Ava have an older set of twin siblings, 22-year-olds Jarren Flowers (#6) and Jayla Flowers, a star track runner at Sacramento State.

Katie and Megan Wrigley

Katie and Megan have shared so much between them—a room, playmates, middle school drama (ugh), friends, teammates and coaches, tough losses and championships… and they’ve fallen asleep talking to each other about it all on countless nights. Altogether, it’s made them into a great team. They’re best friends who love and trust each other completely and want to help each other achieve their goals. They catch each other’s bullpens, give each other front toss, remind each other to post on X… On the field, their bond allows them to communicate a lot with just a glance across the infield, although Katie has been known to call “Time!” from the outfield so she can run in and visit Megan in the circle.

EXTRA INNING SOFTBALL

Katie is sentimental, empathetic, and feels emotions deeply. This motivates her to both document time spent with friends as the unofficial class photographer, as well as fast-forward through the scariest or “cringey-est” movie scenes. In the dugout or on the field, it’s important to Katie that her team feel her support throughout a game, so she celebrates every good play, pitch, or hit as loudly as she can. Mistakes and failures don’t stick with her for too long, either—she’s able to emotionally “fast-forward” in order to stay positive for her teammates when things aren’t going well. This makes Katie a good “hype man” for her team.

Megan is a disciplined, focused kid who enjoys working hard and helping others, which allows her to be a great volunteer at camps and a reliable study partner to her friends. She started playing softball a little later than Katie and then broke her leg in 12U (on a steal… she’d want us to add that she was safe!). So, she’s had to work hard to catch up more than once in her career, and she developed a strong inner drive by doing so. She expects a lot of herself and, because of that, she’s comfortable expecting a lot from her teammates and coaches, which has helped her become an effective leader across multiple teams and sports.

The bond of twins is unique, for certain. Ella and Emma are always each other’s best friend—no matter what. Off the field and on the field, there is no person more excited for your success than a twin.

They have very different personalities. Ella is very spontaneous, which helps her give a teammate the quick burst of enthusiasm they might need in the moment, while Emma is more cautious and provides thoughtful wisdom to her teammates at the end of the day.

Being twins gives us a connection that goes deeper than just being teammates. On the field, we don’t have to say much—we read each other’s body language, energy, and focus. We know when to push, when to encourage, and when to just lock in and compete. There’s a natural trust that comes from growing up together, training together, and holding each other to the same standard every day.

Off the field, that bond shows up in the way we support each other through pressure, setbacks, and big moments. We understand each other in ways most people don’t, and that creates a safe space to be honest, vulnerable, and motivated. We celebrate each other’s wins just as hard as our own, because everything we do feels shared. That connection keeps us grounded and confident wherever we go.

EXTRA INNING SOFTBALL

Our personalities are different in ways that actually make us stronger together. One of us is more vocal, energetic, and expressive—always bringing intensity, leadership, and hype to the team. The other is more calm, steady, and analytical—focused on consistency, strategy, and staying composed in high-pressure moments.

Those differences balance each other out. When emotions run high, one brings calm. When energy dips, the other brings fire. As teammates, that means we can adapt to any situation—whether it’s a close game, a tough loss, or a moment where the team needs confidence. Together, we create a dynamic that’s both driven and disciplined, which helps not just us, but everyone around us perform better.

*****

As we celebrate National Twin Day, one thing becomes clear: the game is better because of them. Twins bring a rhythm, a spark, and a built-in support system that can’t be replicated. Their stories highlight everything we love about softball—family, growth, grit, and the kind of joy that spreads through an entire dugout.

To every twin who’s ever taken the field together, pushed each other to improve, or shared a dream from the backyard to the big stage—today is for you. Your bond inspires younger athletes, strengthens your teams, and reminds us how powerful it is to have someone walking the same journey right beside you.

Here’s to the memories made, the milestones ahead, and the magic that only twins can bring.

Happy National Twin Day—may your connection continue to shine both on and off the diamond.
