After coaching at the high school and club level for 25 years, Slade Stewart has found himself in a new role as assistant coach at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala.
“I’ve always been interested in coaching at the highest level because, as a coach and competitor, you wonder what you can do at the highest level. Wallace State was just an opportunity that was the right timing. I will always be thankful to Lauren Stewart and the administration at Wallace State for giving me this opportunity.”
Stewart has a long history of coaching softball, starting out at East Limestone High School in Athens, Ala. Stewart credits current University of Texas at San Antonio head coach Vann Stuedeman for his start in coaching softball.
“Vann Stuedeman asked me to help her in high school over 20 years ago at East Limestone High School. I will always be grateful for that opportunity.”
He went on to coach at Sparkman High School before pursuing travel softball full-time. As the hitting coach at Sparkman High School, Stewart led his offense to set the national and state home run record with 60 in a single season.
Stewart has headed a prominent club organization in Alabama, the Alabama Sparks Elite. Throughout his 25 years of coaching, Stewart has won several state, and county, championships at the middle and high school levels. He has also seen tremendous success with Alabama Sparks Elite, finishing in the top five at PGF and winning Colorado Sparkler.
