Class of 2026 Spotlight: Camryn Cloonan of Rhode Island Thunder… 10 Fast Facts on the Bay State Prospect

Camryn Cloonan had 22 home runs in 2022 including her club and school ball games.

Next up in the Extra Inning Softball player rankings series is the 2026 Extra Elite 100, with nominations opening this Saturday, April 29th and the window to submit running until Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th

This will be prior to the launch of this updated class which kicks off a week later, Monday, June 5th.

As we begin gearing up for the revised 2026 Extra Elite 100, we’re going to spotlight several strong candidates to make the rankings list.

Today, we head to the East Coast to learn more about a fast-rising shortstop in Dave Lotti’s Rhode Island Thunder travel ball organization…

10 Fast Facts:

1. In 2022, Camryn led her middle school to a league title as she hit over .700 with 10 home runs.

2. Last Summer, Camryn competed for the Mass Dynamites and had 44 hits—24 of them for extra bases—including eight home runs.

3. Camryn joined Rhode Island Thunder 14U National-Lotti for the Fall 2022 season and competed in top events in Illinois, New Jersey, Texas, Massachusetts and California.

4. In her first season with the Thunder, she batted .453 with a slugging percentage of .797 and an OPS of 1.290 with four home runs and 25 RBIs.

5. For the year—in all levels of play—Cam had 22 home runs.

Camryn gets the out at second for the Thunder.

6. Coach Lotti says of her defensive skills: “Cam is an outstanding shortstop who has tremendous range, a flair for making tough plays, a strong arm, and can be seen talking to her teammates between pitches and directing the infield.”

7. Camryn has been training year-round with Matt Hopkins of Hops Athletic Performance since starting in the Fall of 2021 and her trainer says: “Cam has been a relentless humble worker improving her skills in hitting, throwing, and fielding. She has rarely missed a session in the gym or cages over the last 18 months, and it will show when she steps on the field this Spring.”

8. Her training regime has helped the Freshman make “tremendous gains in her strength, agility and athleticism,” per Coach Lotti. Her physical numbers include an overhand throw measured at 63 mph, an exit velo PR at 75.7 mph, a 5-10-5 shuttle time of 4.6 seconds, a home-to-first time of 3.07 seconds, and a home-to-home time measured at 11.98 seconds.

9. Cam is an honor roll student and in 2022 was awarded the DBSL (“Dighton Baseball Softball League”) Sportsmanship Award.

10. In 2021, the athlete was selected as a USA Softball All American and travelled to Oklahoma to play with the other softball honorees.
