Club Player Spotlight: 2022 Outfielder Aleyah Terrell… 7 Reasons Her Coach Feels She Will “Make the Biggest Jump in the Rankings!”

Aleyah Terrell does so many things well… it’s no wonder her coach, Josh Fisher, thinks she’ll make a huge jump in the final 2022 Extra Elite 100 rankings!

Almost exactly a year ago, we did an Extra Star Power on talented outfielder Aleyah Terrell from Greensboro, North Carolina, who was also a member of the 2022 Extra Elite 100 rankings and she will certainly be going up when the class is finalized later this year, at least if her travel coach has any say in it.

Aleyah Terrell has already made a big impact on her club coach.

Recently, Aleyah—a multi-year honoree at Walter Hines Page High in Greensboro as All-State and All-Conference—made a club team change to join Josh Fisher’s Tennessee Mojo program, which has won national championships the last two years.

To say Coach Fisher is excited about picking up the junior standout would be an understatement.

“I strongly feel that Aleyah could quite possibly end up being the player that makes the biggest jump up the rankings this year compared to anyone in any class, throughout these player rankings,” the coach begins.

“The same holds true for the position rankings. The most recent rankings have her inside the Top 30 as an Outfielder. My honest opinion is, right now today, she very well may be the #1 overall outfielder in this class, and if she’s not #1, she is at bare minimum Top 3.”

He’s also high on the trajectory she’s taking in many areas including physical development and maturity in the recruiting process.

“Aleyah is a player who is completely trending straight upward and is progressing at a rapid pace,” he says. “She is truly a 5-tool, multi-dimensional athlete and player and is going to be a lot of fun to watch over the next couple of seasons!”

The Mojo – Fisher main man is bullish on Aleyah and believes there are seven primary areas in which he thinks she shines…

*****

  1. Speed

In terms of Aleyah as a player, it all starts with her sheer athleticism and dynamic abilities, especially her flat-out ability to run.

She currently and consistently (not every now and then, but regularly) is clocked with a 2.58 second home to first time.

Aleyah has electric speed. Throughout the sport, I always hear about fast players; however, finding those players with the type of elite speed she has is virtually impossible.

She IS that player and it’s a big factor in what separates her from the majority in her grad class.

  1. Getting On Base
Aleyah can beat you multiple ways with the bat.

What makes Aleyah and her game, especially her speed, so lethal are the various ways she can get on base.

She is a high-level bunter (she bunts the ball on both lines very comfortably), can utilize both the chop-slap and finesse-slap techniques and controls the ball off of the bat about as good as I have seen at our level.

Aleyah also has the ability with her feet moving to power-slap the ball into both gaps on both lines and hit it with authority into the 5-6 and 3-4 holes (the lost art of slapping, in my opinion).

Over the last several months, Aleyah has also became an excellent “stand-still” hitter. This has added an element to her game, which will make her one of the Top 5-10 players overall in this 2022 class and the player rankings, I believe.

Last Fall, she hit multiple home runs playing in, and at, the highest levels of travel fastpitch. She also was in double-digit extra base hits, both doubles and triples.

  1. Baserunning Skills

Another part of her game that separates Aleyah is her base running abilities. She not only has elite level speed, she understands base running and the situations that come along with it.

She is a premier base stealer and her ability to not only steal second base, but also third base is something that not many kids can do at our level.

As has been well documented in the past, we are a team that loves to run and our team’s ability to do that has been a large part of our success. Adding Aleyah really fits into what we like to do, which is pressure the defense and be very aggressive on the bases. We also look for Aleyah to put up huge numbers with Runs scored.
